又待ってます・・・ Waiting Again…

December 18, 2009

Maxima enim..patientia virtus — Patience is the greatest virtue. (Latin)

Patience est une grant vertu. — Patience is a great value. (French)

Patience is a high virtue. — Chaucer. The Canterbury Tales. 1386

I received an updated e-mail from Interac today. Nothing unexpected, just telling me to hang in there and… wait for more info.

RE:  N. America office update and holiday closures

Dear Jennifer,

2)     Placement is very difficult: Many schools want someone from a particular country, they may want a female over a male teacher, and they may look at your age in determining if they will accept you.  These are just some of the many variables that goes into placing you.  When the Tokyo office calls you to talk about placement, please be flexible.  They have worked hard to find a place where the school will accept you as their teacher.

3)      Don’t worry if you hear nothing between now and the end of January: There is not much to report to you until they get the C  of E and find out your placement options.  If you have not heard from the head office by Feb. 14th, please feel free to call us at our office in N. America and we will be happy to follow up for you.

5)      Sometimes, things seem terribly disorganized: It is the way Japanese businesses in general operate.  They are slow in providing information, and even when they deliver it to you, it can be vague.  N. American’s want everything laid out in fine detail.  This simply is not going to happen in Japan.  Our job is to adapt to their culture, so just take deep breathes and go with the flow.  You will be amazed how things eventually do work out.

–so I continue taking deep breaths. Thankfully I have a brand new, fully stocked and loaded inhaler. (My asthma acts up badly…) I’ll update with more asap. ; )

It was the same for me… things seemed to move very slowly. The vague-ness is still a little difficult for me to adjust to sometimes, especially since back in N. American I was considered to be on the ‘very’ side of detail-oriented.

They didn’t tell me my placement until end of January. It was a good one too, so don’t think that waiting longer than others is a bad thing!
Just wait for that *UNKNOWN NUMBER* on your cell phone.
